Photographs.

1916-1989

The Photographs series includes over 18,600 black and white as well as color reproductions, black and white and color negatives, and slides that provide additional documentation of his official and personal activities. There are numerous studio photographs, press photographs, and candid snapshots. Most of the photographs are black and white and are housed in acid-free folders and boxes. They illustrate his relations with Congressional colleagues and other political figures during his more than 40 years in public service. There are also photographs of Mildred Pepper, the Pepper/Webster family, other individuals with which Claude and Mildred Pepper were acquainted, places, and subjects with which he or Mildred were associated. Every effort was made to identify persons depicted in photographs; when this was not possible, the term "unidentified man" or "unidentified woman" was assigned. Undetermined dates are cited as "ND" (not dated).

The Memoirs Photographs subseries also include color and black and white reproductions and negatives. These items are distinguished from other photographs because they are labeled "Memoirs" and may have been separated from other photographic materials for autobiographical purposes.

The Photographs and Memoirs Photographs series are divided into nine subseries according to the subjects portrayed in the photographs.
